The Conkling Center (formerly known as The Glens Falls Home, Inc.) is a private not-for-profit operating foundation committed to enhancing the quality of life for community members age 55+.
About The Conkling Center
The Conkling Center Inc., formerly The Glens Falls Home incorporated in 1898 to provide residential services for aging women. For over 100+ years, the organization operated a home for aged women on Warren Street in the City of Glens Falls, New York.
After a century of providing extraordinary care and comfort in a home-like setting, the board of The Glens Falls Home noted the changing needs of the elderly in the community. The decision was made, to build a state-of-the-art independent not-for-profit retirement community with an assisted living component for those requiring care. A partnership was formed with The Eddy (at the time – the residential division of Northeast Health) the Continuing Care division of St. Peter’s Health Partners, and The Glen at Hiland Meadows, was founded in the Town of Queensbury.
The women residing at The Glens Falls Home transferred to lovely new quarters at the Terrace in The Glen complex.
In 2014, the name of the corporation changed since the original Glens Falls Home, as a residence no longer existed. Appropriately, the corporation was renamed The Conkling Center, in honor of Mary Conkling, the woman who contributed her family’s home for the first Glens Falls Home.
Today, The Conkling Center offers senior directed programs and services for community members 55+. These include, On-The-Go Transportation Program, Ice Melt Program, and a variety of Programs touching on topics that fall within the areas of Community Awareness, Health and Safety, Legal, Educational and Inter-Generational. We collaborate with individuals and organizations in offering our programs and services to the community.
The Conkling Center is governed by a fifteen member Board of Directors, five of which serve on the Board of The Glen at Hiland Meadows.
