Are you a former athlete that has been itching to get back in the game ever since you graduated? Wouldn’t it be nice to play organized sports in the Glens Falls area again? Who’s with me?
I went to the informational meeting last week, so I can fill you in on some of the details. If you have any interest in forming a team, joining an existing team, or showing up for the draft, read on..
Currently the league organizers hope to get six teams of 12-15 guys each. If you have a small group of guys that isn’t enough to fill a roster, but would all like to play on the same team, this can be worked out.
At the end of March after roster forms are turned in, there will be a workout day at East Field, and anybody that is not already on a roster will be drafted by the teams that already have a partial roster. So if you have six guys that want to play, but can’t find any more, you can draft the rest of your team at the beginning of April after watching everybody hit and throw for a day at the field.
All games for this league will be played at East Field on Dix Ave in Glens Falls. Most of the games will be played on Sunday afternoon, with a few weeknight (5pm) games being played throughout the season (probably one per team). This Wood Bat League will run through April and May, and will be over by June as that is when the Glens Falls Golden Eagles start their schedule at East Field.
League games will be 9-innings, which is a good reason to have more than 12 on a roster. I don’t think any one of us is going to come out and throw a complete game.
The cost of the league will depend on how many players are interested. In a six team league, each team will pay $1800, which works out to $150 per player for a 12 man roster. If we can get 15 guys to a team, this cost drops to $120 per player. Cost covers bats, balls, umpires, and the use of East Field.
If you are interested in forming a team, joining a team, or going out for the draft at the beginning of April, you should swing by the next meeting on Wednesday, February 29, at 6:30pm at East Field in the Golden Eagles Baseball Office (building behind home plate, upstairs) or contact Darin Williams at

I am pretty excited to get a chance to step up to the plate again. I am optimistic that there are enough people like me around here that would also like to relive their glory days and take a few cuts. Maybe I’ll see you at the next meeting. And if you’re interested, get out there and start warming up that arm!
