The great bakers of Belle Dolci team up with The Benjamin G. Round Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament for the third straight year to recreate its annual golf course cake!
Belle Dolci is known for creating the perfect cake for any and all occasions. This will be their third time creating a cake resembling a golf course, and each year the resemblance becomes more flawless. They work hard to bring their artistic abilities to mouthwatering treats, and this golf course cake exemplifies all their talents.
Belle Dolci is notorious for creating unique tasty treats daily, but combined with their charitable efforts to create the perfect cake for this golf tournament, they have unquestionably outdone themselves.
Without a doubt, the details on the cake will be precise and will not go unnoticed. Belle Dolci really concentrates on every inch of their cakes, even the smallest crevices, so this cake is bound to be amazing. Their treats are pleasant to look at, and even better to eat!
Owner of Belle Dolci, Melissa DiPasquale, is a strong supporter of The Benjamin G. Round Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is used to remember the legacy of Ben Round and help deserving students who epitomize those same remarkable traits as Ben further their education.
This is the fourth year in a row that this tournament is being held and the third year that this fundraiser has teamed up with Belle Dolci. On August 3, at 9:30 a.m. the tournament will commence and the final product of the cake will be displayed, you won’t want to miss it!
Melissa DiPasquale took some time to answer our 10 questions about her creations and the fundraiser below:
How long have you been a master of cakes, and what
sparked your interest?
I have been making and designing cakes for about three
years and in business for two years. While I would not consider myself a master
of cakes, I really enjoy what I do. I began designing cakes for my
younger cousins and realized that I really enjoyed making them and seeing their
excitement when I presented them with a cake.
What was the very first cake design you ever
created?
The very first cake I ever designed was actually two
cakes. I asked my little cousin Symone what she wanted for a birthday
cake for her 3rd birthday. She told me she want a princess
cake and a castle. I couldn’t say no to a 3 year old so I made her a 3D
princess and 3D castle cake.
Why is this golf fundraiser close to your heart?
The Benjamin G. Round Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament is a
way to continue the legacy that was Ben. He was the kind of guy that not
only did everyone love and want to be around but you were a better person
because you knew him. I met Ben when he was about 12. He was my
brother’s best friend. From the moment I met him, I loved him. He was
kind and sweet and humble. This fundraiser helps deserving students who exemplify
the same amazing qualities Ben possessed in furthering their education.
How long does an average cake take, from start to
finish?
Each cake has been so very different that the times
have varied greatly. I have spent anywhere from 5 hours to almost two
weeks on a cake depending on the sculpture work.
What kind of cakes are the most fun to create?
I love a cake that presents a challenge.
Anything with a 3D sculpture is my favorite.
What is the most unusual cake you have ever done?
I would have to say my most unusual cake was the cake
for the Second Annual Benjamin
G. Round Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament. The golf course cake
was 2′ x 4′. To date I have not created anything of that size again. It
was very large and very detailed.
Have any horror stories to share? (Bridezilla,
ruined cakes, etc??)
The night I made the 4 characters for the Winnie the
pooh cake was very humid. Unfortunately, I woke up to having Pooh, Piglet
and Tiger all melted with their colors running everywhere and their limbs
separating from the body. I had to redo the all three from scratch.
Do you have a sweet tooth?
I have moments. I do love dessert but working
around cakes has definitely curbed it. By the time I finish tasting each
cake and their icings and fillings, I don’t want to look at another sweet for
awhile.
Are you a fan of the Food Network baking
competitions?
I am a huge fan of the Food Network baking
competitions. I have no formal training. I like to say I am self
taught but honestly these competitions and different cake shows have really
opened my eyes to a lot of techniques and ideas. I feel that
because of them I push myself with each cake and test the limits of what I can
do regularly.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to
learn cake decorating?
Cake
decorating is a lot of fun; however, it requires a good amount of patience and
determination. Nothing is ever how you visualize it. Persistence is
key. Don’t give up. Whether you decide you want to learn on your
own or go to school, take in everything you can. Test out all of the
techniques and just have fun!! You will be amazed at what you can create!
