Over 70 years ago, Ray Supply opened its first store in the Glens Falls area. Since then, the company has become a well-established electronics shop in Queensbury. As part of a renewed focus on providing services, Ray Supply is shutting down its Queensbury location and returning to Downtown Glens Falls!

Ray Supply was established in 1937 as Ray Distributing Co. by Ray Clements and Ralph Lapham. The Glens Falls-based business originally focused on wholesale radio parts.
From 1937-1954, the company began to expand its business to other electronics, including television parts and photography supplies. John Goetz, the grandfather of current co-owner and vice president Gregory Goetz, purchased Clements’ interest in the company in 1941.
In 1954, Ray Supply moved from its Glens Falls location to a hybrid office and warehouse building at 871 Route 9 in Queensbury. At that time, RCA color television sets were new, and Ray Supply held the first demonstration of one in the Glens Falls Region.
Despite the company’s success, retail sales have decreased over the years. Online retailers and large chain stores have caused Ray Supply to refocus its business toward providing technical services.
Keith Zoll, president and co-owner of Ray Supply, told the Post-Star, “Today, clearly, if you are not in a service-based industry, you’d better take a clear look at what is in your future.”
Although the company’s products still appeal to hobbyists, Ray Supply has made service its main business. The Post-Star noted that 80% of the company’s business has been installing “internet-controlled audio, video and lighting systems in homes and schools.”
Ray Supply’s new building at 9 Pine Street in Glens Falls is oriented more toward providing services than selling electronics. There are five garage bays, and the space is personal and less like a warehouse.
The company plans to relocate in early September. Downtown is the perfect area for a small business like Ray Supply, and we can expect the area to continue to grow in the future.
