Start your summer off right. At the cabaret! This weekend, Fort Salem Theater is featuring Couples: A Cabaret. Read on to learn about the must-see performance, starring Carmen Borgia and Alison Davy, and Jay and Lynne Kerr: two married couples with a passion for performing.

About the Show
Couples: A Cabaret will feature Carmen Borgia and Alison Davy of Catskill, and Fort Salem owners Jay and Lynne Kerr of Hebron. The pairs share more than their love of music, though: both lived in New York City before moving north. “Carmen and Alison left the city willingly, to find peace and joy in the country,” Mr. Kerr joked in a recent interview. “Lynne and I were drummed out.”
“In fact,” Mrs. Kerr countered, “he was drummed out and I had to follow when our lease ran out.”
Mr. Kerr is a successful musical theater writer, composer, and arranger with work represented from Fort Salem to Broadway. He conceived Couples: A Cabaret as a show where two married couples musically mix and match, becoming six couples. The two men sing an Al Jolson song together, the women two Broadway duets, Borgia and Mrs. Kerr some classic bossa nova, and Davy and Mr. Kerr a classic from 1927.
Couples: A Cabaret will be at Fort Salem Theater this weekend:
- Saturday, June 23 at 8 PM, and
- Sunday, June 24 at 2 PM.
About the Couples
Returning audiences will remember Alison Davy and Jay Kerr from last year’s production of Souvenir, where Davy played tone-deaf opera singer Florence Foster Jenkins, and Kerr her accompanist, Cosmé McMoon.
Davy has also sung at Lincoln Center, the White House, and extensively in Europe. Borgia, her husband, was the sound engineer for the performances at Fort Salem and Bridge Street Theater. He will be performing classic ukelele tunes at the upcoming cabaret, plus his original, “I Don’t Want to Make My Dreams Come True.”
Carmen Borgia and Lynne Kerr learned that they have one more thing in common. “We each appeared on The Uncle Floyd Show in our youth,” said Kerr in a statement, referring to a cult classic show that ran from 1974 to 1998. Hosted by comic Floyd Vivino, the show also featured Peter Tork (of The Monkees), Cyndi Lauper, and Bon Jovi. Mrs. Kerr has also performed in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and The Village Gate.
Seating for the show is limited, so make your reservations today! Admission is $20 and includes coffee and tea. Order your tickets online at fortsalemtheater.com, or by calling the theater box office at (518) 854-9200.
