Learn all about the premier show of the 2018 season, and get ready to kick off your summer with ATF.
About The Show
Some Lovers tells the story of a couple “caught between their present and their past,” as their younger selves reunite to find out where their relationship took a wrong turn. Said Producing Artistic Director at ATF, Chad Rabinovitz, in a statement, “This is no jukebox musical — it’s packed with all new music from the legendary Burt Bacharach! Combined with [writing by] Steven Sater, it’s incredibly exciting that ATF and Glens Falls get to be in on the ground floor for this show.”
Award-Winning Talent
The musical features an incredible cast, including Sandra DeNise (Bright Star, Kinky Boots: The Musical), Chris Hoch (Shrek The Musical), Emily Schultheis (Island Song, Wicked National Tour), and Andrew Mueller (Peter and the Starcatcher).
You may recognize Steven Sater for his work on the hit musical Spring Awakening, which won him 2 Tony Awards and a Grammy. The acclaimed playwright and lyricist has not only worked on musicals, but on plays and television as well. Other works include Alice by Heart, The Nightingale, Nero, Prometheus Bound (with Serj Tankian), as well as the 2018 series Rise.
Music comes from celebrated songwriter Burt Bacharach, who Rolling Stone ranked at 32 in their 2015 list of 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Known for his work on 1968’s Promises, Promises (with Hal David), as well as on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (also with Hal David), he has won 3 Academy Awards and 8 Grammy Awards throughout his impressive career. The new score for Some Lovers is Bacharach’s first in 50 years.
The show’s director, Josh Rhodes, is a successful choreographer as well. He’s best known for his work on Broadway for Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, First Date, It Shoulda Been You, and Bright Star, as well as shows at London’s West End and the Asolo Repertory Theatre.
Designers for Some Lovers include Paul Tate dePoo III (Scenic), Sera Bourgeau (Costume), Paul Miller (Lighting), and Jon Fredette (Sound), with Anthony De Angelis as Musical Director.
