Editor’s Note (12/5/2019): The live armed services radio broadcast will be held on Saturday, December 7, at 2:00pm at The Hyde.
The City of Glens Falls is getting into the holiday spirit, and on Friday, December 6 & Saturday, December 7, the Downtown Glens Falls Business Collaborative will present the 2019 Hometown Holidays. Bring the family to downtown Glens Falls for the annual tree lighting, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, festive entertainment, and more!
Experience the Holidays in Glens Falls
Glens Falls knows how to celebrate the season, and during the 2019 Hometown Holidays, the community will transform into a holiday wonderland. On Friday, December 6, the festivities will begin with holiday music at 5:00pm from DeeJay DuBray from Regional Radio Group and carolers from Glens Falls Community Theatre in City Park along the Bay Street side of the library. Then, at 5:45pm, the ceremonial tree lighting will take place in City Park.
After the tree is lit, Santa will greet the crowd before he is escorted by local veterans to Glens Falls National Bank where children can tell him their Christmas wishes and get a photo taken. Hometown Holidays will feature horse and wagon rides, musical performances, costumed characters, refreshments and cocoa, kids’ activities, a downtown Sale and Market, and even live reindeer.
Celebrate Hometown USA
This year’s Hometown Holidays will recognize Look Magazine’s 1944 designation of Glens Falls as Hometown USA, and a celebration will be held at The Hyde Collection starting at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 7. One of the celebration’s highlights will be a Hometown Holiday Radio Show presented by The Hyde in collaboration with the Glens Falls Symphony and The Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library. This live holiday armed forces radio broadcast will be performed by Captain Gary Ferris. In addition, there will be festive songs and stories paired with piano and imagery of Glens Falls in the height of its hometown heyday.
Saturday’s events will also include a free showing of “The Grinch” at the Charles R. Wood Theater at 12:00pm.
