The Open Door Mission in Glens Falls, NY is a non-profit that plays an important role in the local community. The organization exists to serve people at their point of need by offering food, shelter, and other services. On March 5, 2020, The Open Door Mission announced the opening of a new clothing pantry and shelter beds at their Warren Street facility.
A Major Expansion at The Open Door Mission
The Open Door Mission was able to complete construction of this expansion project thanks to help from volunteers and corporate support. There are now new shelter beds that can accommodate men transitioning out of homelessness and women during Code Blue season.
Additionally, the organization’s new clothing pantry, provided by funding from CDPHP, will allow more homeless men and women with free access to new or gently used clothing items.
In a press release, CDPHP president and CEO, Dr. John D. Bennett, said, “CDPHP understands that 80 percent of a person’s overall health is determined by things like housing, food, transportation, and education. That is why we’re thrilled to partner with Open Door Mission to provide wrap-around services to help people get back on their feet and live their healthiest lives.”
This new space is located adjacent to The Open Door Mission’s relocated and expanded food pantry. Over $120,000 in sponsorship from CDPHP, Hannaford Supermarkets, Fenimore Asset Management, Pine Knolls Alliance Church, and the Glens Falls Foundation helped turn this project into a reality
The hope is that the space will allow the non-profit to minister more effectively and make it easier to transition people from homelessness to self-sustainability.
