Crandall Pond Ice Lantern Contest Announced
Attention creative folks looking for a winter project: There will be a Crandall Pond Ice Lantern Contest from February 5 to 19. You create the lantern, drop it off at Crandall Pond, take a photo, and then enter to win. It will be so fun to see the frozen pond illuminated by all these lanterns!
A Reminder That Ice Safety is Paramount
Speaking of frozen ponds, on Monday, January 25, an angler fell through the ice in Lake George near Bolton Landing and had to be rescued. If you’re out ice fishing (scroll down for a Warren County ice fishing tournament!), ice skating, or otherwise out on frozen waterbodies, please brush up on ice safety before heading out.
Downtown Revitalization Efforts Turn a Corner With GF DRIVE
We’ve been buzzing about a resurgence in Downtown Glens Falls for years now, since the city received $10 million in 2017 for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). The City and the Greater Glens Falls Local Development Corporation (GGFLDCP) will launch the Glens Falls Business Downtown Revitalization Initiative Venture Enterprise Program (GF DRIVE), which will serve as a significant part of the DRI.
Acronyms and initialism aside, this is exciting because the GF DRIVE will support startups and new businesses looking to expand in the Downtown area; the plan is to also promote existing businesses within the neighborhood, including those on South Street and Elm Street.
GF DRIVE will provide deferred loans to businesses looking to start up or expand in underutilized space in the target area, and applications are available now. Interested parties can email acollins@cityofglensfalls.com.
