OK folks, this will be one of the last times you’ll get to see/hear/dance to one of our local legends, Bobby Dick & the Sundowners. As most of you know, they’ll soon be hanging up their instruments as a group. But before they do….
Now we’ll smoothly segway over into the Adirondack Balloon Festival weekend and see how the two tie together. Specifically, Friday, September 24. More specially downtown Glens Falls. And very specifically from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
Glen Street will be blocked off for one, gianormous block party. We’ll have The Boothill Band playing top country hits followed by Bobby Dick & The Sundowners rockin’ the street from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. We’re quardering off a dance area so bring your most comfortable shoes and some good moves. (See? I told you the two would tie together.)
But wait – there’s more! Local car enthusiast and all-round good guy Bill Trombley and friends will be bringing us over 50 gorgeous, mint condition classic cars as part of the event. What do classic cars have to do with a balloon festival you may ask? Well, absolutely nothing – but who cares. They’re eye candy pure and simple.
While the music is cranking you’ll get to meet and talk to the actual balloonists and see their interesting ballooning baskets and “candlesticks” (you know, the things that light up, make all that noise and lift the balloons up.)
The Upstate Model Railroaders will be opening up their “club house” so you can see their incredible managerie of trains & tracks. Representatives from the Adirondack Phantoms will be showing up as well as The Feeder Canal Alliance, the World Awareness Children’s Museum, Glens Falls Figure Skating Club and more. The shops and restaurants will be opening their arms to the thousands of people who will be coming down.
And, last but not least, at 9:30pm FIREWORKS go off from Centennial Circle to cap off the evening. How fun.
So, mark your calendar. My recommendation is to not miss this FABULOUS and FREE downtown event.
Bye for now, Alice
