The Kiwanis Club of Glens Falls Presents Duck Race at Adirondack Thunder Game

Annual Duck Race

This January 21 could be your ducky day thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Glens Falls! Get in on their annual Duck Race (raffle event) for a chance to win cash or other cool prizes. And, it's all for great causes.

Please note, this article is from 2023, but is a great indication of what to expect at this annual event.

Spend $5, Support Local & Win Big

The Duck Race event is one of the biggest fundraising efforts for the Kiwanis Club, and they're not the only ones who depend on these funds. Partnering organizations the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks, the Glens Falls Senior Center, Let's Share the Sun Foundation, and the WAIT House also count on these proceeds.

Raffle tickets are being sold now and at the January 21 Adirondack Thunder game at just $5 each. Call the Kiwanis Club at 631.764.3788 or contact any of the above organizations to get tickets.

Worst case scenario, five of your dollars benefits local programs. Best case, you win a million dollars.

The cash prize for this year if your duck's number is drawn is $2,022. If your number matches a secret, pre-selected number, you can win an additional $1,000,000.

"It's fun," Kiwanis Club Immediate Past President Matt Taormino said about the drawing. "We literally have to call it in the moment that we get the ticket." They don't even know the secret number ahead of time.

If you're thinking, I'm never going to win a million dollars, you may be right, but! There are 30 other prizes up for grabs besides the cash that have been donated by local businesses, including but not limited to a four-pack admission to the indoor waterpark at the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge.

You Don't Have to Be Present to Win

The Duck Race drawing takes place at the Cool Insuring Arena during the Thunder game against the Newfoundland Growlers. The game is at 7pm on January 21, and the drawing will happen in between the second and third period.

You can find the Kiwanis Club selling tickets right at the entrance to the arena when you walk in. The partner organizations will be present as well. Even if you've already purchased your raffle ticket, stop by the table to say hi, and bring your kids to get a free rubber duck!

Note, if attending the game, you do need to purchase Adirondack Thunder tickets separately from the raffle tickets. If not, they'll give you a call if you win.

Where Does the Money Go?

The Kiwanis Club proceeds go to the scholarship program for the Glens Falls Foundation. They've given out over $250,000 over the years to individuals pursuing their college goals. About two to four scholarships are given out each year at around $10,000 per recipient.

"Right now we're sponsoring eight students on their journey," Taormino said.

Each of the worthwhile partner organizations reaps the benefits of their own sales. So if you purchase from the Big Brothers Big Sisters, that's where your dollars go.
