This isn’t a trick question: What does Gene Kelly (could that man dance!), a HUGE blow-up outdoor movie screen, and The Wood Theater have in common?
Yes, you guessed it! It’s an homage to “Singing in the Rain” – the tap dancin’, boy meets girl, girl-gets-mad-and-gets-even-only-to-be-won-over-in-the-end, happily ever after musical. Only here in Glens Falls our homage goes like this:
Thursday, June 17 Art in the Public Eye is presenting the actual movie “Singin in the Rain” on a big blow up movie screen at 8pm. It’s Free and Fun – especially great on one of our glorious summer evenings. Located at the green space between Bay & Glen Streets. Bring a blanket, chair, hammock…whatever….and while-away the evening with the whole family singing songs just like the VanTrapp family (oh, wrong movie).
ATF (Adirondack Theatre Festival) presents the musical “What a Glorious Feeling” at The Wood Theater. Backstage drama behind the making of “Singin in the Rain”. Tap dancing – Yes! Singing – Yes! and all performed by equity actors cast out of NYC. Runs from 6/24 – 7/3. Get tickets NOW by calling 518-874-0800. Looks to be a great season of theater!
Cruise on down Thursday, June 24 (also opening night of ATF) with you classic car and take part in the Downtown Classic Car Cruise-In from 5:00pm-8:30pm. Killer cars along with music by The Riverside Five from 5:00-6:45pm; then Joe Ramsey performs as Elvis from 6:45pm-8:30pm.
The City of Glens Falls will also be pairing up with the cast of ATF‘s “What a Glorious Feeling” and the Glens Falls Ballet & Dance Center for a tap dancing “tap down” starting at 7:00pm at 197 Glen. Bring your tap shoes and show ’em how it’s done! Shuffle, ball, change.
That same evening you can buy a raffle ticket for $100 which could win you a gleaming 2010 4-door, Ford Escape SUV, donated from Carriage Traders. It’s a fundraiser for St. Mary’s Parish and the actual drawing is September 12, 2010. With only 500 tickets sold, your chances are pretty darn good. Who couldn’t use another car?
The Upstate Model Railroaders will also be opening their doors. You won’t believe how many trains are chugging around… miles and miles of tracks. Located downstairs below Aimie’s Dinner & a Movie, 194 Glen St. The kids LOVE this place!
So much is going on this summer in the city!
Bye for now, Alice
P.S. Always get your pets spayed or neutered.
