If you’re looking for a delightful day’s outing with your child(ren) or grandchild(ren) and don’t think you can face the malls or theme parks yet again (not that there’s anything wrong with that)…I have some suggestions.
Explore! (and, yes, the ! is part of its official name), 103 Warren Street, is an interactive and, dare I say it, educational family fun center. They have a 19 ft. climing loft with a nice, soft landing below, a pirate ship, a castle, costumes and many other kinds of activities to keep your little ones focused and having fun. And here’s an added value: you can get a massage or manicure whilst your little angels are romping around. Give them a ring at 518-793-7803 for more info.
Right down the road is The Hyde Collection at 161 Warren Street. I know, I know….am I crazy for suggesting you bring your kids to an art museum? Doesn’t that have disaster written all over it? Will the docents and museum professionals gasp with disgust as your motley crew come through the door? The answer is a resounding NO because they have an excellent museum education department dedicated to inspiring the future Picasso’s and Pollack’s of the world. Armed with an arsenal of paints, crayons, pencils, and paper, and its very own studio space far, far away from all the priceless art, The Hyde offers a variety of “Artful Afternoons” and drop in classes. Call 518-761-1761 for more info.
My last suggestion under the heading of “exhaust the kids while having fun so they sleep like zombies that night” is to opt for the Warren County Bike Path. Load up the van with bikes, drive down to anywhere along the path, unload, and go to it. Let them peddle their little hearts out in a safe, secure, traffic-less (except at crossroads) environment. And here’s the beauty part: Cooper’s Cave Ice Cream just happens to be on the path (corner of Dix & Sagamore) where you can get your just desserts (literally) by enjoying some of the best ice creams, sundaes, et al around.
I would suggest that a 3 scoop minimum in a waffle cone would definitely be in order as a reward for having such a wonderful day. The Bethels know their stuff and offer a huge & creative array of choices. Thanks, Patty, for making all my ice cream dreams come true!
Bye for now, Alice
PS. Spay or neuter your pets!
