No, it’s not a description of a video game, my dwelling, or my state of mind (not yet, anyway). they’re actually well-known patterns used in one of America’s most beloved traditions.
Quilts. They conger up all sorts of imagery: a new born baby snuggled in his crib with a quilt made by grandma’s own hands; lovers lying on one while picnicking under a willow tree; a cottage on the lake with a hefty quilt thrown over a down-pillowed bed in front of a roaring fireplace; or a chic apartment with a stunning contemporary quilt hanging on a wall.
It all works because quilts are comfort, art, and memories all rolled into one. It’s like the perfect food in fabric format.

A woman I recently met told me that her mother had passed away and she was having a quilt made from different pieces of her favorite dresses. She’ll always have her mom with her. I thought it was a lovely idea so I’m passing it along.
The quilters’ world is one of creating and giving. Unless you’ve made a quilt, you have no idea how much time one of these can take. I suppose, as with many things, the more proficient you become, the easier it gets.
Many years ago I had a driving passion to make quilts and succeeded in cranking out about ten of them. But they take time – especially hand quilting – and time was something I ran out of, so I haven’t quilted in a long while.
Try your hand at quilting and make a memory or two or three…
Bye for now, Alice
PS Remember to always get your pet spayed or neutered (and make them a quilt!)
