samantha’s cafe and catering is more or less a destination lunch spot. the area of broad and south streets where the business is located is a little “iffy” at this time. however, the area is poised for rehab and development, with the beginnings just around the corner. literally. our building of 45,000 square feet is a former shirt factory now housing numerous small businesses. the present owner has taken pride and time to do things right, even adding a second parking lot. i wish i had a dime for every one who finds us in union square building and says they did not know we were there. we have been in business for 23 years, in this location for 9. things take time. the other businesses in the building are viable and diverse, a great group of people, with a creative eye, appreciating the quirkiness and amenities of 14 foot ceilings, old brick walls, hardwood floors, expansive windows, banging heat pipes, and utilities included in the rent, a real plus for us!
most people who come to the cafe for lunch have to drive here and find a parking spot as we are a few blocks off the beaten path (glen street), so we appreciate all who make the effort. our scratch breads and soups, hopefully, are special enough to make the trip worth it, and delicious. a destination, definitely.
