during the last 20 years doing business, there have been many times that customers have asked when were we writing a cookbook. thinking to myself that would not be likely, as i was working 12 hour days and could hardly think or walk when i left the cafe each day. about a year ago, i mentioned to a co-worker that i was thinking of selling the business. at age 66, there must be something else that i need to do before i can’t “do”. my canine companion had recently died and i had a freedom that was not quite guilt free and the wanderlust idea sorta grabbed me. of course i did not follow a different path then nor since, but i still think about doing something different. a co-worker is a bona fide writer and i mentioned to her my idea of a cookbook paralleling my dog’s life. i know it sounded a little crazy, but pam is a game kind of girl. we started outlining the book, laughed a lot and actually then became serious when we realized that it could work. i furnished the material regarding toby’s life and the recipes we would use and she put it together. today the cookbook/dog-memoir arrived from the publisher in all it’s glory. we couldn’t wipe the grins off our faces. we are published! it’s a short story and an eclectic gathering of original recipes. and we have left “room” for a second book, this time with a new canine, bodie. food and dogs. for me it doesn’t get any better!
