I often get questions from a variety of tourists or visitors planning to come up (or down) to the area about where to spend the night. So, let’s start with the obvious…
The grand dame of Glens Falls, and arguably of the area, is The Queensbury Hotel. She has stood at 88 Ridge Street for all of her 86 years. Recently and blessedly, the old gal had a much needed face lift (honey, don’t we all eventually) and is again opening her welcoming arms. With over 100 recently refurbished guest rooms, she sits prettily across from City Park but just one block away from all the downtown action.
Many famous entertainers have overnighted there while performing at the Civic Center – from Ozzy Osborne to Bob Hope and Bob Dylan, Louis Armstrong, Kenny Rogers, Dan Akroyd, Billy Joel, and the rock bands Phish, ZZ Top and Alice in Chains. If that’s not diversity, I don’t know what is and a good thing they weren’t staying there all at once!Call 518-792-1121 for room info.
Some people, however, prefer the more personal touch of a bed and breakfast. If you fall into that category check out The Manor Inn, 514 Glen Street. Ron & Denise will welcome you to their charming, comfortable and clean establishment. Europeans and Canadians often prefer B&B’s so they have an array of interesting guests from all over. For more info call them at 518-793-2699.
Another thoroughly delightful establishment is The Glens Falls Inn, 25 Sherman Avenue. This elegant Victorian offers a bathroom with each of its 6 bedrooms. It also has a third floor suite which includes its own kitchen. Call 518-743-9365 for info.
All two of the B&B’s are very comfortable and within easy walking distance to downtown.
Sweet dreams. Bye for now, Alice
