Interview With Ranchero Owner
Check out our interview with the new Ranchero Steakhouse (former location of Jake's Roadhouse) in Glens Falls, NY!
1. This used to be Jake's Roadhouse and is now Ranchero. You're the same owner - why the change? Why Mexican?
Originally, we tried to keep the Jake's name and history, but give the menu a new twist with comfort food. Simply put, it didn't work. We had fans, but we didn't change things enough for most people to notice and give us a try. We decided to take a few months to re-think, re-tool, and re-brand the restaurant, and Ranchero Steakhouse & Cantina is the result. We designed the menu to meet the tastes of our local market, adding Mexican dishes for variety because no one else offers it nearby. Changing the name communicates that the menu is new. From the increase in business, we know that these decisions and changes are working.
2. What are you doing for Cinco de Mayo?
We're hosting our Grand Opening Party with live music from The King's English, drink specials and prizes at the bar. There will be a ribbon cutting, too. It's looking like it will be quite a bash! We're opening a little early at 3pm to get things going. The band starts at 6:30.
3. Tell us about your beer-- and tequila, too, since it's Mexican!
We feature 10 beers on tap that rotate often, with an emphasis on local brews. We carry several different premium tequilas, including blancos, anejos, and reposados. Our house margarita is made with fresh lime juice and agave nectar, which is the sweet syrup derived from the same plant as the tequila itself.
4. Do you ever have live music or entertainment?
Richie Ortiz plays every Wednesday at 7pm, and he's always fantastic. We also have music for special events like Cinco De Mayo--this Thursday, The King's English starts at 6:30pm. They are a lot of fun!
5. Do you have outdoor dining at Ranchero?
We are refurbishing our patio with new lights and plantings for the season. Now if the season would just arrive!
