The New York Times Knowledge Network has welcomed SUNY Empire State College to the ranks of institutions collaborating to advance educational opportunities for adults. The agreement establishes a collaboration in which Empire State College degree program offerings will be included in the New York Times Knowledge Network offerings, and Knowledge Network offerings will be included in the college’s program offerings.
“The New York Times Knowledge Network complements SUNY Empire’s long tradition of providing top-notch learning through a variety of channels,” said Felice Nudelman, executive director of education at The New York Times Company. “This collaboration gives students the opportunity to learn from some of the most renowned journalists in the world while they work toward their SUNY Empire degree.”

The Knowledge Network provides access to the unsurpassed professionals of The Times and their historic body of work,” said college President Alan R. Davis. “Knowledge Network students fit our profile very nicely. In fact, for more than 40 years SUNY Empire State College faculty mentors have educated adults through guided independent study. The history of innovation continues today because Empire State College students, with the guidance of their faculty mentor, can achieve their educational goals anytime, anywhere, either onsite or online.”
College students and faculty mentors may incorporate Knowledge Network courses into independent studies for college credit, and The Knowledge Network will provide opportunities for college staff to interact directly with students through information sessions and presentations.
Advising by Empire State College will be available to students to explain how to request college credit for the learning they have acquired through Knowledge Network offerings.
The college has appointed dedicated specialists to coordinate communications with Knowledge Network students who are interested in studying at the college, and will provide information sessions for Knowledge Network students online and onsite at Empire State College locations.
The Knowledge Network and the college each have developed soft-landing web pages to provide relevant information for students seeking to advance their education.
The New York Times Knowledge Network was launched in September 2007 to deliver lifelong learning programs on timely subjects. Through The New York Times Knowledge Network, extensive resources from The Times and other participating universities and institutions are readily available to students online, whether they are enrolled in an on-campus course or continuing their education through a distance learning program (www.nytimes.com/knownow).
SUNY Empire State College was established in 1971 to offer adult learners the opportunity to earn associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University of New York.
