A Michigan-based paper company is partnering with Finch Paper Holdings, based in Glens Falls, io a move that will broaden the services of the local company.
The partnership is with French Paper, which manufactures premium custom paper for graphic arts, printing, packaging, writing, text, cover, specialty, and gift applications.
Together, the companies will offer customers a superior array of fine uncoated paper products, company officials said.
Finch Paper is a vertically integrated paper manufacturer specializing in high-bright, uncoated papers for North American printing and converting markets.
Construction of ‘The Market’ On South Street To Begin In Summer, End In 2021
Three buildings in Glens Falls will be demolished for the construction of The Market, a 10,000-square-foot, one-story glass-and-brick building to be used for the year-round farmers market and community events.
Scheduled to be razed are the former Juicin’ Jar at 49 South St., the former OTB building at 51-57 South St. and the former Daily Double at 59-63 South St.
Plans were unveiled in August. The cost of the project is estimated at $2.5-$3 million. Requests for qualifications from interested developers will go out either late this year or early next year, city officials said.
Fairfield By Marriott Inn & Suites Opens Near Northway Exit 18 In Queensbury

The new Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Queensbury is open for business at 21 Big Boom Road in Glens Falls, just off Exit 18.
The 77-room hotel opened on Sept. 7.
It will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned by Adirondack Gateway Development LLC and managed by Spruce Hospitality Group of Glen Falls, the same group that owns and operates the Queensbury Hotel.
Tyler Herrick is the president of Spruce Hospitality Group, owned by Herrick and business partner Zachary Moore. The group also manages the hospitality entities owned by Ed Moore, creator of the French Mountain Commons outlets in Lake George and owner of the Queensbury Hotel among other properties.
As co-owner of Spruce Hospitality, Herrick acts as general manager for both the Queensbury Hotel and the Fairfield Inn & Suites.
“This is the most up-to-date design package offered by Marriott. It also goes back to the original founding of the Marriott brand, taking a page out of the design book of the Fairfield farm in Washington DC. This is where the Marriott family would often stay,” said Herrick.
Warren County Historical Society Opens Museum Within Queensbury Headquarters
The Warren County Historical Society has officially opened a museum with a new display, “Warren County 360: Celebrating Place and People,” at its headquarters, 50 Gurney Lane, Queensbury.
The exhibit, a product of two years of research and design, depicts the evolution of Warren County through the lens of cultural geography, showing how the natural resources of the region led to the development of its economy and society.
The display was made possible through the financial support of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, the Town of Queensbury, the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership, the Touba Family Foundation, NBT Bank, Hank’s Quality Flooring, Steve Bascom of Edward Jones, and several members of the society’s board of trustees.
An exhibit of Warren County postal history from 1813 to 1920, curated by Trustee Stephen Matte of Queensbury, is on display in an adjoining gallery.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Opens In Aviation Mall Offering A Wide Variety Of Merchandise
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet opened its newest store at Aviation Mall on Aug. 28.
With more than 309 locations nationwide, the Harrisburg, Pa.-based company is one of America’s largest retailers of closeout merchandise and excess inventory, according to the company.
“It’s a good area to get into—good population, good incomes,” said Jerry Altland, vice president of real estate, of the new location in the Adirondacks.

The Hyde Collection announced that Laura Bradigan has been named director of development.
Bradigan, a Saratoga Springs resident, will advance the mission of the museum through development, donor relations, and fundraising.
Before joining The Hyde, she held a similar position at Bethel Homes and Services in Ossining and Croton-On-Hudson for more than 10 years. She has also worked for many years in government, politics, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations in the Capital District and upstate New York.
Bradigan is a member of the Saratoga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a board member of Bethesda Episcopla Church’s Mercy House in Saratoga Springs, and a former board member of Sculpture Space, a Utica-based residency program for sculptors.

Queensbury Cigar & Pipe Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary, Plans Party On Oct. 8
Queensbury Cigar & Pipe is celebrating its 25th year anniversary.
The business began in 1994 as Cup O Joes, a seasonal coffee house in the Lake George Village Mall. Owner Kathleen Kelly noticed that as time went on, more people continued to ask for a place to purchase cigars in the village.
With a boom in cigar smoking going on during the mid-1990s, it was an easy decision for Kelly to start carrying cigars, she said. Soon after, she started the premium tobacco e-commerce website CupOJoes.com.
Along with the growth in the e-commerce business, the physical store location moved south to Queensbury and became Queensbury Cigar & Pipe at 1036 Route 9.
Adirondack Thunder Hockey Team Renews Affiliation With New Jersey Devils Of NHL
The Adirondack Thunder has renewed the affiliation agreement with the NHL New Jersey Devils for the upcoming season.
The 2019-20 season will be the third that the Devils and the Thunder have had an official partnership. The Devils became the Thunder’s NHL affiliate on Aug. 8, 2017, after the organizations had an “informal working agreement” during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
“We are happy to once again be a part of the New Jersey Devils’ organization this season,” Adirondack Thunder Governor Ed Moore said on behalf of the Adirondack Civic Center Coalition. “Our relationship is great and now that we are entering year three, we believe that it will only get stronger. With the additions and improvements that New Jersey made this offseason, we are excited to see what this year has in store for the entire organization.”
“On behalf of the New Jersey Devils, we are pleased to continue our partnership for the 2019-20 season with our ECHL affiliate, the Adirondack Thunder,” said Devils Executive Vice President/Assistant General Manager Tom Fitzgerald. “Giving players consistent ice-time and exposure in all situations at the ECHL Level will help them develop throughout all levels of the New Jersey Devils organization and its affiliates. [farmacy] Is A New ‘Restobar’ Opened On Ridge Street In Downtown Glens Falls

A European-inspired eatery has opened in Glens Falls. It’s called [farmacy], a restobar, located at 22 Ridge St.
A restobar is a place when people can eat, drink and watch as the food and beverages are prepared only a few feet away.
“You are literally sitting across the table from your chef, which is the same concept as sitting in a bar with the bartender right in front of you,” said A.J. Richards, head chef and co-owner with his wife Christina.
The restaurant is intimate, with seating for 44 people. But the real distinction is that everything is open, Richards said.
“An open kitchen such as this is both a blessing and a curse,” he said. “It takes a different kind of cook.”
But the customers are responsive to the lack of walls, and “the chefs love it too,” he said.
