Surfside on the Lake, a resort at 400 Canada St. in Lake George, is now open for business following an extensive expansion and renovation.
Some minor work is still being done.
“The project, as a whole is complete,” owner Salim Amersi said. “We started the project with demolition on October 19, 2015, and a completion goal date for Americade 2017. It’s a great achievement to build 56,000 square feet for a complex building” in seven months and two weeks.
As of June 7, they’ve had a temporary certificate of occupancy for 40 rooms, 10 suites, an office/lobby as well as underground parking while work continued.
MLB Construction of Malta was the general contractor.
“With the known and unknown challenges we had, it was a project that required a lot of calculated coordination by MLB,” Amersi said. “They had an aggressive timeline constructional schedule for completion. Having a mild winter was a blessing.”
He said work on the HVAC for the meeting rooms is still in progress. “We have had some delay with our furnishing for the new rooms awning installations, which is in progress and held back the completion of the stucco finish… Like any major project, we are in the process of completing the punch list and fine finishes to the rooms. Tweaks are always there to be done.”
Lake George is a boom town for tourism and officials hope Surfside will be a bigger draw.
“Any investment in Lake George by any business owner benefits all within the village, the town of Lake George and Warren County as a whole,”Amersi said. “Sometimes, it’s not all about the money, but the passion to do right.”
He said the major investments within the last two year in Lake George–his hotel, the new Courtyard by Marriott at 365 Canada St., and the Charles R. Wood Park and other projects –“will definitely turn heads this season and trigger further investments for better changes.”
