Local business owner and contractor Rusty Saunders started construction of a 22,500-square-foot building at 235 Corinth Road that will become Skyzone Indoor Trampoline Park in the spring.
The construction is just off Northway Exit 18, heading toward West Mountain.
Saunders also owns Action Equipment in Glens Falls and R.S. Masonry in Fort Edward, and he is the general contractor for the new project. He expects to be open for business in either March or April.
Skyzone Indoor Trampoline Park is an international franchise, with locations in Europe, Australia, Canada and the Middle East. However, this is just the second Skyzone to be opened in the upstate New York region.
The philosophy of the Skyzone franchise is to promote physical, mental and emotional well-being by offering customers an alternative to the gym or dance class. The benefits of bouncing include burning calories, improving balance and coordination, and releasing endorphins.
Customers pay for half-hour increments of time, and they can choose from a variety of activities on the trampoline, including “ultimate dodge ball,” “sky hoops,” and the newest addition, an “American ninja warrior” course, which has its own warped wall, just like the wall contestants must scale on the popular television program with the same name.
Other activities include “Sky Jousting,” “Sky Slam,” and the “Foam Zone,” where customers can flip and fly off a trampoline runway into a pit filled with 10,000 foam cubes.
In addition to individual activities, Skyzone can accommodate birthday parties, corporate team-building events, school groups and community and charitable events.
“This past October, Skyzone franchises around the country gave out pink socks, instead of the standard orange socks that customers are given to wear, and they collected $250,000 for breast cancer,” said Saunders.
He added that his facility will have three different birthday rooms. He also noted that smaller children are not put in with older, larger kids and adults, and every customer must sign a waiver and receives instructions on rules that must be obeyed.
Reservations for individuals and groups are not required, but are recommended.
Saunders expects to have a website up and running within the next few months.
