Elevation Pilates located at 19 Ridge Street, 2nd Floor in Glens Falls is slated to open early May. A grand opening is tentatively being planned for Saturday, May 5 from 9:00 a.m.-noon and will include multi-level mat classes and an equipment demonstration.
Owner Kathleen Porcell, plans to offer a variety of group mat classes, group tower classes, semi-private and private Pilates sessions. Sessions will range from $15-$65 per class and will be 55 minutes in length.
“I am working on a monthly schedule that will be pretty set,” she explained, “some will be in the morning, a few at lunch for people who work in the city of Glens Falls and then classes from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturdays.” Semi-private and private sessions will be scheduled by appointment.
“There are a lot of professional people working here, and there is a lot of growth in city development.” she said, “It is a great opportunity for me to start a business.”
Prior to receiving certification as a Pilates instructor, Porcell was a dancer. “I had been a dancer and because of a dance-related injury in 1995, I was introduced to Pilates,” Porcell explained. “(It) helped me rebalance my body and I got my first certification in 2008.”
Porcell earned her certification in the classical method and has been teaching for four years. In 2011 she completed a six-month apprenticeship in New York City. “I always wanted a studio of my own,” she said.
