A new Dollar General is being built in
Queensbury and is tentatively scheduled to
open in late summer 2015. The store will be at
the corner of Newcomb and Main Street, across
from Apex Solar.
Officials for the chain said the one-story store
will be approximately 9,100 square feet, with
approximately 7,300 square feet of that as sales
floor space.
Dollar General, a bargain retail chain selling
a range of household goods, groceries, beauty
products and more, is expanding throughout the
Northeast, hoping to give customers easy and
convenient shopping choices.
“We know convenience is a major factor in our
customers’ shopping decisions as we generally
serve customers within a three-to-five mile radius,
or 10-minute drive,” said Crystal Ghassemi,
a communications official for Dollar General,
which has corporate offices in Goodlettsville,
Tenn.
The company also takes demographic trends,
competitive factors, traffic patterns and community
concerns into consideration when planning
new locations.
Six to 10 employees will be hired for the new
location. Applications will be available in early
summer, Ghassemi said.
Dollar General has more than 11,800 stores
in 43 states, mostly in small to mid-size communities.
Ghassemi also noted that the Dollar General
Literacy Foundation helps to support literacy and
education in the communities it serves.
The foundation awards approximately $12 million
each year to nonprofit organizations within a
20-mile radius of a Dollar General store to support
literacy education. It also supports customers
interested in continuing their literacy education.
At the cash register of every Dollar General store,
customers can receive a free brochure with a
postage-paid reply card that can be mailed in for
a referral to a local organization that offers free
literacy services.
Dollar General has stores in Hadley, Corinth,
South Glens Falls, Whitehall, Greenwich and
Hudson Falls.
