Doray Motel at 4 Fort George Road in Lake George has plans to expand and anticipates breaking ground on the project in the spring.
Mohammad and Mussarat Tariq purchased the property in 2011. The husband and wife team have experienced success through the years.
“I felt that after running this motel that there is a huge need to expand. Each year is getting better and better with sales,” he said.
Currently, Doray Motel has 15 rooms on the premises. The expansion would be comprised of a separate two-story building situated behind the motel that would provide 32 additional rooms.
The project also includes an outdoor swimming pool.
A new feature for guests will be a continental breakfast offered each morning.
The application was approved by the town Planning Board in November. The next phase of the process will be to have Warren County approve the expansion. Tariq expects the new construction to be approved without a problem.
Once the building permits are given, groundbreaking is scheduled to begin this spring. Construction will take an estimated four to six months. The new motel will be ready by the following season.
The Tariqs believe that this expansion is going to significantly help their business.
“We will see exponential revenue generation from this,” he said.
Doray Motel offers Adirondack-style accommodations. The walls are covered in knotted pine. Amenities in each room include cable television and a microwave and refrigerator in each room.
The motel has a large backyard, suitable for family picnics and gatherings.
Being a family-owned property is what sets them apart from some of the other hotels in Lake George, Tariq said. The owners are dedicated to giving personal attention to each guest. Small things like calling each guest by their first name, and guiding them directly to where they need to go, is what adds to the personal touch that guests love, he said.
Doray Motel is open April through October, though Tariq hopes there might come a time when they can be open all year long.
“Lake George is a place where people come to get away from their busy schedules. We have so much to offer them here. I would say this is the most beautiful place in all of the Northeast,” he said.
