In 2014, a participant at the Red Hook Criterium bike race in New York City crashed into a metal barricade. Due to his broken ribs, the patient began to suffer respiratory problems. Fortunately, Event Medical Services of New York was onsite and able to provide basic life support and get the person in an ambulance in under three minutes.

A year later, after a full and speedy recovery, he was able to participate in that same race once again.

“If it had just been an ambulance, they couldn’t have gotten to him so fast inside the track like that,” said Travis Dunklee, owner and founder of Event Medical Services of New York, based in Lake George. “That’s where our motto ‘When seconds count, count on us’ comes from, because more often than not we’re there in 30 seconds.”

Upon realizing there was a gap in the market for affordable, proactive, and effective event medical services, Dunklee started his business in 2007 out of the desire to help his community.

Hiring an ambulance to attend large-group events is often a necessary precaution, but it can cost upward of $150 an hour. There’s also no guarantee the ambulance will stay on site if an emergency calls it away.

The providers of Event Medical Services of New York, however, will be present for the duration of the event, no matter what happens, and their services come at an affordable rate, said Dunklee. The staff is often the first line of defense before an ambulance is able to help.

Adirondack Aquatic Center (AAC) has received its first $1 million pledge from an anonymous donor, marking the largest contribution to date toward the proposed $22 million, 80,000-square-foot facility.

A local group plans to build such a center  along the health and wellness corridor located off of Route 67 in Malta. The property is located across the street from Malta Urgent Care.

“This pledge brings us closer to realizing our dream—to build a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that community members and visitors can utilize for years to come for recreational and wellness, therapeutic and competitive training purposes,” said Kara Haraden, president of the AAC board of directors.

“This $1 million donation will make a big splash in the efforts to build the Adirondack Aquatic Center and bring all of the positive economic impacts it would entail to the town of Malta and to the place where all good things emanate, the 49th State Senate District,” said state Sen. Jim Tedisco.

AAC representatives said an official fundraising campaign will kick off in 2018. The board of directors is seeking both public and private sector funds.

Feigenbaum Cleaners has moved its downtown Saratoga Springs store to a new location.

It is now at 18 Congress St., on the corner of Congress and Hamilton Streets. Previously they were located on Railroad Place. The new location has more parking.

“Convenience is the number one thing for our customers,” said Todd Feigenbaum, president of the company. “There is plenty of parking. People can park right at the door and come in. This is much easier for people who have their hands full of clothes.”

A grand opening ceremony was held in October.

The company believes that this relocation will be helpful for their customers, and allow them to create a more pleasurable, customer service friendly experience.

Feigenbaum Cleaners operates four locations in total: their original plant in downtown Glens Falls, a Queensbury location at Quaker Plaza; and another location at Wilton Square in Wilton.

Feigenbaum Cleaners is part of the Green Cleaners Council. It utilizes System K4, an ecofriendly, biodegradable dry cleaning service.

The staff at Feigenbaum is equipped to clean just about any material including leather, suede and furs. Items damaged by smoke or fire can cleaned and restored. Customers bring in comforters, bedspreads, cushions, area rugs, and other home items for cleaning.

Tourism Officials In Lake George Area Are Examining Best Options For Future Marketing

Posted onOctober 11, 2017October 12, 2017
People enjoy Million Dollar Beach in the summer on Lake George, one of the many tourist attractions in the area. Officials are examining ways to best market the region all year around.

By Maureen Werther

At the end of the 2017 summer tourism, there are divergent opinions about who should oversee marketing and promotion of the region going forward.

Members of the Warren County Lodging Association (WCLA) have been lobbying to create a Warren County Convention and Visitors Bureau, which would operate as a business and take over the marketing, advertising and promotion functions that have been the job of Warren County Tourism Department.

Frank Dittrich, member of the WCLA and part owner of several hotels and inns in Lake George, is among those pushing for a change. He and others insist that the increased revenues from room occupancy taxes are the result of increases in room rates and not increased levels of occupancy.

By Liz Witbeck

Allen-Fountain grew up in the Glens Falls area and attended Queensbury High School. She received degrees in business from SUNY Adirondack and SUNY Plattsburgh.

Although she was not formally trained in culinary arts, the field had been a hobby of hers for many years.

“My dad and I always talked about opening a sweets shop,” she said.

She started creating cakes, cupcakes and other treats for friends and family. In 2016, her husband Josh surprised her when he signed her services up with a local wedding association. She did her first wedding show last year through the association, which gave her publicity.
