The local Tri-County United Way has been helping to support many community partners for eighty-nine years. By raising funds, and helping other non-profit organizations in a variety of ways, we’ve been able to provide much-needed funding streams to address the needs of our communities.
The campaign goal for this year, which was announced in September of 2011, was set for $850,000. While we knew this goal was ambitious, our board and volunteers felt that, as the needs of the people in our region were growing, we should strive to bring in as much resource as possible.
At this point in time, we have raised $750,000. We are very grateful and thankful for everyone’s donations; we understand and value every contribution. During the month of April, a large number of volunteers are engaged in meeting with our member agencies, to determine the outcome of their work in the last year, what they see as challenges and needs for this coming year, and to ascertain what level of monetary support is needed to continue to effectively serve their clients. And what we are hearing from the non-profits whom we assist, is that the needs have dramatically increased during this last year. As the downturn in the economy has affected more and more families, people who have never needed to apply for help have found themselves having to do so.
We are most grateful for the help and support so many individuals, companies and organizations have displayed to us over the course of many years. I believe people understand that, by all joining together to address need, we are effectively and efficiently well representing their charitable donations.
In a step we do not normally take, we’ve decided to make the people of our communities aware of the shortfall in the United Way campaign, in hopes that some further donations will be forthcoming based on our cry for help. We do this on behalf of those whom you may not see, or hear, but are people in need. The money donated to Tri-County United Way stays right here in Warren, Washington, and northern Saratoga counties, and is carefully and thoughtfully given out through our partner agencies. We serve senior citizens, youth, families, and people in need of specialized help. Additional gifts, made or pledged during the month of April, will be directly allocated toward this year’s donations to our member agencies.
