“Lightpainting” artist, Stephen Knapp: Studio Assembly.
The Hyde Collection invites the community to participate in a free day on Sunday, August 19, 2012. The Museum opens at 12 noon offering free admission to the current exhibitions Stephen Knapp: New Light and Tiffany Glass: Painting with Color and Light, organized by The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass, New York. Visitors are also welcome to tour Hyde House and its collection of Old World and European Masters.
The following Community Day activities will take place from 1pm – 4:30pm:
The Art Studio: Drop in Discovery Day for families. Visit the exhibition Stephen Knapp: New Light and enjoy a spectrum of art activities in the art studio.
The Froehlich Auditorium: Special guest “lightpainting” artist Stephen Knapp will speak at 2 pm about the evolution of his work and its process. Open captioning for the hearing impaired is being provided at Mr. Knapp’s lecture, in part, by TDF and TAP Plus, which is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
The following activities will take place outside at the front of the Museum:
The Science of Light – Elizabeth Hoffman, museum specialist with the Schenectady Museum & Suits-Beuche Planetarium, demonstrates ways of splitting light waves. Have interactive fun and learn how scientists use the colors to help determine the world around us and on other planets. Experiment with a spectrograph to examine how to capture and release light waves.
Flame Working – Glass artist Rhea Love Doran will transform molten glass into beads, marble forms, and glass sculptures and discuss her process.
Celebrating Diwali: The Indian Festival of Light and Color – create vibrant Indian Diwali Symbols with teaching artist Amanda Murphy.
