Sutton’s Marketplace, 1066 Route 9 in Queensbury, is an award-winning fixture in the Adirondack region. Since opening as a small seasonal produce market in 1976, it has grown exponentially and today offers fine furniture, clothing, and gifts, as well as a bakery and a country café.
As the holiday season approaches, Sutton’s staff are welcoming many return customers who include the Sutton’s shopping experience as a holiday tradition. The business also offers new features, including a wine bar, and dinner hours.
“We always strive to make our Christmas season special,” said Jane Sutton, store manager and lead buyer. “To us, Christmas is about tradition and being with family and friends.
“Coming to Sutton’s has become a tradition to many of our customers. With all that is going on with our country we wanted to make this Christmas season light- hearted and fun. We want people to feel good when they enter our store, and we have focused our energies on buying merchandise that represents that.”
Sutton said the marketplace prides itself on carrying items not typically found in big box stores, and also credits the success of the business to customers who return annually to purchase holiday gifts. Favorites include filled candy canes, Saratoga Sweets Peppermint Pig products, and Old World Ornaments.
“The store also offers Brighton jewelry, handbags, bath and body products, dishware, Stonewall Kitchen gourmet food, and much more,” said Sutton.
Sutton’s is also known for its breakfast and lunch selections in the country café, as well as their on-site bakery featuring cider doughnuts, apple dumplings, croissants, and fresh baked pies and cookies, among other treats.
The wine bar opened this month.
“We felt that it would be a fun place for friends to gather,” stated Sutton. She is working closely with a wine representative to offer a varied selection of recommended wines. “We change our wine list seasonally and have wine specials throughout the month. We hope to have wine tastings and special events in our lounge that we have created.”
During the winter months, the wine bar will be open on Thursday and Friday nights. In addition, the café will be offering dinner selections. The menu will include some items from the popular lunch menu such as grilled sandwiches, salads and soup, as well as heartier dinner entrees and nightly specials highlighting wholesome, fresh ingredients reported Sutton. Dinner hours will be 4-8:30 p.m.
“We are hoping that the wine bar and dinner business really takes off and we will be able to expand our hours in the future,” said Sutton.
Sutton’s Marketplace is open year-round, seven days a week. Breakfast hours are 7:30 -11:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Sundays, while lunch is served until 3 p.m. To learn of Sutton’s specials, events and impromptu sales, call 798-1188 or visit www.facebook/suttonsmarket, or the website at www.suttonsmarketplace.com.
