Tackett Chiropractic Center, welcomed Dr. Jeffrey Sawyer into its practice in January.
After four years of undergraduate studies, Sawyer attended New York Chiropractic College where he was able to enroll in summer classes, expediting the typical five-year program to a three years and four months. “I chose to attend classes through the summers. It was a rigorous workload with some semesters over 25 credit hours,” he said.
Started by Dr. William Tackett in 1996, Tackett Chiropractic Center specializes in physical adjustments, but they also offer nutritional advice, exercise and stretching that complement the treatment plans
On average the office sees a little over 200 patient per week. Prior to joining Tackett, Sawyer did a year of clinical work in Long Island which proved to be great educational experience and has allowed him to “hit the ground running” at Tackett Chiropractic Center.
In addition to practicing at Tuckett, Sawyer is also a biology instructor with SUNY Adirondack.
“I was a teenage patient of Dr. Tackett’s, originally for low back pain. Within a few visits he had me feeling like a million bucks. I have never been one that liked taking medication when not obviously necessary. I have an interest in health and wellness and it seemed like a natural fit,” said Sawyer.
In addition to chiropractic adjustments, the center offers services for pain relief. Sawyer uses KinesioTaping, to help some of his patients. It is bright, colorful tape that was seen often in the London Olympic Games and is said to be effective at restoring proper biomechanical function to an affected area.
Sawyer believes people are all perfectly designed to self-develop, self-heal and self-maintain and chiropractic care simply helps remove any interference to these processes. Proper spinal motion and alignment are essential in allowing the nervous system to function at its highest potential, he said. Every nerve in the body travels through the spine. The nervous system is the communication highway between body and brain.
Helping children, from infants to teenagers, is likely the most rewarding part of practice for Sawyer, he said.
“Birth is a traumatic event for a baby especially in breach or other complications,” he said. “Getting their spine checked is a must. It can help alleviate colic or even chronic ear infections. Furthermore, children go to school and sit in desks all day. We were designed to be hunters and gatherers, constantly going through our full ranges of motion, but this inevitably doesn’t happen. Getting adjusted will improve motion and alignment of the child’s spine, ultimately improving their potential for health.”
During appointments patients receive a full comprehensive exam, possibly X-rays and they receive a thorough report of findings by the doctor.
