To Dave Martin, owner of S.W.E.A.T. Revolution,
it’s not just another workout. He wants it
to be the best hour of someone’s day. He helps
everyday people get healthy.
That hour happens at S.W.E.A.T. Revolution,
where Martin offers a non-traditional workout
program for all ages that trains clients like they
are professional athletes.
Martin is a former college athlete and has
worked as a strength and conditioning coach
for NCAA Division II men’s basketball and
Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
He opened S.W.E.A.T. Revolution, 23 Collette
Lane in Hudson Falls, after being away from the
area for several years. He said his passion for
helping others and a desire to give back to his
community lead him to set up shop as a trainer.
Martin said the best way to describe
S.W.E.A.T. Revolution is “athletic functional
training,” where he treats small groups of 8-10
clients per session like athletes-in-training.
“This is not a gym,” said Martin. “It’s a new way to work out.”
His twice-weekly classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for one hour, at 5:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., for $10 per class. He also schedules personal training sessions with clients throughout the week. He enjoys helping people who come to him to get stronger or loose weight – and have a good time doing it.
The program, which incorporates elements of basketball, hockey, soccer and other sports, doesn’t utilize traditional gym weights. Instead, clients train using medicine balls, circuit training, and their own body weight to tone and strengthen muscles.
Martin stressed that because it’s a low impact workout, it’s made for everyone who puts in the time and commitment. Clients range from youths wanting to improve their power in sports to older adults who want to return to their training days while getting a great workout.
What’s most rewarding for Martin is seeing people – young and old, experienced and beginner – enjoying their workout. He said clients come ready and excited to train.
“I treat my clients like athletes,” said Martin “and I’m training right alongside them each class.” Other options for strength training at S.W.E.A.T. Revolution include intense cardio workouts like TRX, a body weight suspension training born in the Navy Seals. Martin offers clients the ability to learn exercises they’ve never done before.
Martin said what sets him apart from other personal trainers is his attention to nutrition. He gets excited about teaching people how to care for themselves through making better food choices and promotes the use of Advocare, a nutrition system endorsed by the NCAA, to help them do it. Martin’s clients who use Advocare have lost an average of 12 lbs during this 24-day program, he said.
Martin’s biggest client success story is his high school and college friend who lost 95 lbs over the course of a year while completing three rounds of training and the 24-day nutrition challenge that Martin promotes. As a married father of two with a busy job, his friend had forgone exercise for the demands of everyday life and he knew he needed to make a change for himself and his family.
For Martin, the best part of his friend’s transformation was how his friend’s family – parents, uncle and a cousin – also benefited from the program by becoming his clients. “I like that from helping one person, I can reach entire families and make a difference overall in their lives,” said Martin.
Martin expects to build on S.W.E.A.T. Revolution’s successful first year and plans to add staff to be able to offer more classes.
