The Fort Edward office of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. assisted the Fort Edward Community Food Pantry during a Community Appreciation Day on April 17.
Activities included a bake sale and raffle, generated $270 plus food donations for the nonprofit. The event also included free food, a visit from the Easter Bunny, and the Fort Edward Police Department provided child ID finger-printing kits and gun locks.
Additionally, the main office of the bank raised almost $800 for Relay for Life, an overnight walk on May 30 that raises funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society, during a Community Appreciation Day on May 23.
The bank held various fundraisers, including selling hot dogs, conducting a bake sale and having luminaries for purchase in memory or honor of loved ones.

Locally owned and operated Henssgen Hardware Corp. and Haber’s Export Agency announced a change in ownership.
Previously owned by Ronald and Nancy Shaw, the business was purchased by their daughter, Rachel Shaw Novak.
Henssgen/Haber’s has been in Queensbury since 1984.
The company recently received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) and Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) by the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

The Washington County Fair Inc. will give away four $500 scholarships to students for the 2014-15 school year.
Eligible
applicants are those students who have been, or are currently active in
the fair, and who will be students at an accredited institution of
higher learning during the 2014-15 term.
The scholarship program
was established as an extension of the educational purpose of the
Washington County Fair. This scholarship is issued directly to the
recipient.
The recipients of the 2013 – 2014 scholarships were:

Foote of Hartford and Sandra Dorothy Andrew of Eagle Bridge.

Financial Corp. , parent company of Saratoga National Bank and Trust
Co., was recognized by Forbes as one of “America’s 50 Most Trustworthy
Financial Companies” for its accounting and governance practices.
It
is the third consecutive year the Glens Falls-based company has
received the designation. Arrow is the only upstate New York financial
institution on the list.
To create its “Most Trustworthy” lists,
Forbes enlists GMI Ratings, a proprietary ratings provider and
investment advisor, to evaluate over 8,000 publicly traded companies
based on factors such as high-risk events, revenue and expense
recognition methods, SEC actions and bankruptcy risk. The financial
company’s list includes the 50 banks and insurance companies with the
highest scores over the past four quarters of the fiscal year.

C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls
Hospital and the American Academy of Dermatology will hold a free skin
cancer screening clinic from 9 a.m. to noon May 17 at the center, 100
Park St., Glens Falls.
This event is open to the public.
Individuals with no insurance are especially encouraged to participate.

The Fund for Lake George is
providing a grant of $10,000 to the Lake George Park Commission for
training approximately 50 boat inspection technicians.
The
four-day training commenced on April 28 and includes a comprehensive
curriculum covering all aspects of inspection and decontamination of
trailered boats. Inspection and decontamination is central to the Park
Commission’s Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Prevention Program set to
begin on May 15 on Lake George.
For nearly a decade, The Fund for
Lake George has been a major underwriter of programs to treat existing
invasive species, including Eurasian water milfoil and Asian clams.

GlobalFoundries’ parent company, Advanced Technology Investment Co., is changing its name to Mubadala Technology.
The
Abu Dhabi-based company said the change was spurred by the growth and
maturity of computer chip manufacturer GlobalFoundries.
GlobalFoundries,
which operates a chip factory in Malta, was established by Advanced
Technology Investment Co. and Advanced Micro Devices in 2009. The
company now is the world’s second largest semiconductor manufacturing
company.
