Kamco Supply Corp. celebrated the opening of its newly expanded building materials distribution center in Queensbury with a party on May 29. More than 200 people attended the grand opening.
The Queensbury building consists of a 30,000-square-foot warehouse and 3,200 square feet of showroom and office space, according to branch manager Jamie St. John. There is a dual drive-through allowing employees and customers to load materials onto their vehicles inside the facility. However, Sheehy said, most of what the company sells is delivered to the builder’s work site.
The store is located at 10 Silver Circle, off Big Bay Road, and near Northway Exit 18 in Queensbury. It is part of Kamco Supply Corp. of New England, headquartered in West Haven, Conn.
It is open to the public, with customers ranging from do-it-yourself homeowners to large commercial contractors. There are 14 employees.
Kamco began 80 years ago as a small building materials company in New Haven, Conn. Jack Sheehy, son of the founder, John Sheehy, expanded the company throughout New England and into New York state. Queensbury is the newest location.
“We are extremely happy to be in Queensbury,” Jay Sheehy said, “And we look forward to becoming active in the community.”
The Queensbury store, Kamco’s ninth, actually opened in late December but, St. John said, “We wanted to get the winter behind us” before throwing a party to celebrate.
Some 30-40 vendors displayed their wares at the celebration, including a service repair company and another offering winter work clothes, as well as vendors of more traditional construction materials.
“It was a great party, a beautiful day and terrific food from local vendors,” said Jay Sheehy, president and CEO of the parent company.
The company serves customers, mainly professional builders and developers, in New England and upstate New York, “from Cranston, R.I., to Buffalo,” according to Sheehy. “We don’t focus on homeowners. But we are happy to service them.”
The company has a website, www.kamconewengland.com. The telephone number is 798-7245.
