The Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival
celebrates its sixth year of keeping fiber
arts and natural fiber production in the
Southern Adirondack region alive and well.
Each year producers, craftsmen and artist
gather to display and sell their wares.
Demonstrating their skills, they educate
the public about natural fibers and their
importance to our community. The Southern
Adirondack Region is ranked as one
of the top natural animal fiber producing
areas in the nation.
This year’s festival, on Sept. 27 and 28,
offers the more than 4,000 attendees a
variety of products made in the southern
Adirondack region.
The festival is held at the Washington
County Fairgrounds on Route 29 in Greenwich.
Classes and workshops in felting, weaving,
dying and knitting are offered during
the two-day event. Registration for participation
in classes and workshop can be
found on-line at www.adkfiber.com.
Organizers said there will be plenty of
fiber producing animals at the festival,
including sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas
and angora rabbit. Sheep herding, duck
herding and sheep shearing demos are
scheduled throughout both days. For the
kids, Puddles the Clown will be at the festival
for facepainting, and The Widgets and
Kangarooster will be performing.
Vendors are located indoors so the festival
runs rain or shine. Admission is $5
for adults, children 13 and under are free.
This year’s festival is sponsored in part
by Washington County Fair, Sutherland’s
Petworks, the Times Union, Battenkill
Fibers Carding and Spinning Mill and The
Yarn Shop at Foster Sheep Farm.
