Through a federal EPA grant, a no-cost job
training program will be offered in the late
fall for the unemployed in the greater Glens
Falls region.
Ed Bartholomew, president of EDC of Warren
County, said the environmental training
program “will consist of approximately an
eight-week course which will focus on training
in a variety of environmental employment
areas including: asbestos removal technician,
hazardous waste management, facility maintenance,
industrial cleaning , forklift operator,
safety technician and many others.”
The program was put together via a partnership
among the EDC of Warren County, the city
of Glens Falls, the state Department of Labor,
Warren County and Local 773 Plumbers and
Steamfitters union.
According to Bartholomew, the job training program is being offered to currently unemployed
individuals. Up to 25 applicants will be
selected for the first round of the grant to enroll
in this program.
To better inform potential candidates
about this program, there will be an orientation
session at the Warren County One Stop
Career Center located in the Northway Plaza,
Queensbury, 2-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The training program that will commence
in November will be conducted at the newly
opened $5.5 million Local 773 Plumbers and
Steamfitters Regional Job Training Center at
Tech Meadows (Luzerne and Veterans Road)
in Queensbury.
Bartholomew thanked the efforts of U.S.
Sen. Charles Schumer for his support and
advocacy for this grant application and grant
award on behalf of this region.
