Kate Austin-Avon started her web design
agency, Advokate, in 2010. She taught herself
web design as a teenager and was excited
to turn her talents into her own personal
business.
Advokate, at 21 Cooper Street, Suite 201A,
in The Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, offers a
wide variety of services.
“I’m flexible and intuitive,” said Austin-
Avon. “I really listen to what people need.
My goal is to meet people at their level. They
can come to me with any budget and we’ll
figure it out.”
Austin-Avon specializes in web design,
working in WordPress to develop customized
websites for clients. She offers graphic
design services to create brochures, business
cards, posters, and other literature. Social
media marketing through Facebook, Twitter
and other sites is another service offered.
Recently, she added event planning to her
list of services, as well as amity meetings,
where she sits with clients to regularly work
on their websites and other needs together.
As a mixed-media artist, Austin-Avon found her niche building websites for other
artists. She also works with small businesses
and non-profits. Some of her clients have included the town of Lake George, the Glens
Falls Symphony, the Glens Falls Collaborative
and the Arts District of Glens Falls.
She was awarded the 2013 Independent
Business of the Year Award by the Adirondack
Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Austin-Avon receives a lot of support from
her family. Her husband Cory helps part-time
to run the administrative side of her company.
In 2012 she had a son, Henry.
She also writes a column for The Chronicle,
Family Time, about the challenges of
motherhood and raising a family, balanced
with running her business.
In addition to her web design agency,
Austin-Avon started a boutique, located in
the same space as Advokate. In it, she sells
a variety of items including baby items, clothing,
accessories, art, jewelry, home decorations,
soaps, stuffed animals for Easter, and
other items.
The items are handmade and local. The
boutique is open 1-5 p.m., Thursday through
Saturday.
Advokate is eager to help any individual
or business on their web design and marketing
needs, whether they are an artist,
non-profit or large company. She begins
with a consultation to assess the needs of
the individual or company, with costs $25.
