According to the National Association of
Realtors, bathroom remodels are the number
one home remodeling project, with kitchen
remodels coming in a close second place. The
two have historically each held first and second
position as most popular remodeling projects
for years now.
Justin Steinberger, owner of Steinberger
Woodworks, has been in the business of custom
cabinetry for nine years. He said the company
has experienced stout clientele growth and
he has seen many design trends throughout
the years.
“We have seen a tremendous shift towards
painted cabinetry in gray or white tones,” he
said. “Occasionally customers will want an accent
of reclaimed wood, but the gray or white
cabinetry is the predominant focus. It is by far
our most popular theme right now, and the
demand is very high.”
Steinberger Woodworks has a showroom on
Quaker Road in Queensbury.
“In past years, brushed cabinetry hardware has been popular,” he noted. “However, recently
there has been a shift towards silver hardware
with a shiny finish. It lends itself to the popular
gray and white tones very well.”
Bathroom and laundry room cabinetry tends
to be paired with small, white floor tiles for
a clean, crisp look. Natural hardwood floors
are still very popular in many of the kitchens
commissioning new cabinetry from Steinberger
Woodworks.
Nadine Cusack, design consultant for Glens
Falls Tile & Supplies in Queensbury, concurs
on the trend of the painted cabinet finish,
although the Dix Avenue business has seen
more orders for brown tones recently.
“Cabinets with a painted finish are in demand
right now, especially in darker tones like
expresso and cocoa,” she said. “Unpainted wood
isn’t being requested like it used to. Everyone
wants painted cabinets these days.”
Cusack states that quartz countertops
have become markedly popular over granite,
a favorite in past years. As a man-made product, quartz is very low maintenance as a
countertop.
Regarding kitchen flooring, Cusack said,
“Many of our customers are asking for tile
that looks like hardwood flooring. This is very
popular right now.”
Glens Falls Tile & Supplies has served the
region since 1997 and recently acquired Ball’s
Kitchen & Baths.
Despite the relatively low cost-to-value ratio
of the kitchen and bath remodel, both projects
remain constants in the most popular home remodeling
endeavors.
