The town of Queensbury was awarded funding
that will be made available for home rehabilitation
work in west Glens Falls and south
Queensbury.
Queensbury Supervisor John Strough said
$300,000 was received from the New York State
Office of Community Renewal through the New
York State Housing Trust Fund HOME Program.
He said these funds will be used to continue
the town’s housing rehabilitation grant program
for income eligible single family home owners
in these areas.
“The Town of Queensbury is grateful for the
funds received to continue its housing rehabilitation
program,” said Strough. “We are pleased
that the state Office of Community Renewal
recognizes that much of the housing supply in
the West Glens Falls and South Queensbury
areas of the Town is old and in need of repairs.”
He added, “many home owners work hard
to keep their properties in good condition, but
despite their best efforts, they do not have the
money available to make major repairs. The
federal funds received by the town through this
competitive housing grant program are instrumental
for improving the living conditions for
these residents, especially those with very low
incomes and at the poverty level.”
This funding will be used to address necessary
home repairs. Needed repairs such as defects to
the roof and foundation will be given first consideration,
the supervisor said. Priority will then be
given to other building components which may
affect the safety of the residents including faulty
wiring, plumbing, and heating systems.
Any resident in the West Glens Falls or South
Queensbury sections of the town that owns and
resides in a single-family dwelling, and believes
they may be income eligible, is welcome to apply
for assistance.
