The Warren County Bar Association presented
the Patrick J. Mannix Award in March
to Dennis J. Tarantino, who has been practicing
law in Glens Falls for more than 39 years.
It recognizes a member of the Warren
County Bar who has earned a reputation for
fairness, honesty and competence, both professionally
and personally, by demonstrating
a demeanor and attitude which exemplify the
ethical ideals of the practice of law.
This award is named in memory of former
Glens Falls City Court Judge Patrick J. Mannix,
a local attorney known for activities
which fostered collegiality among fellow attorneys.
Mannix was the first recipient of the
award in 2001. Judge William A. Bacas and
Thomas J. McDonough are past recipients.
The recipient of this award must have
demonstrated cordiality, civility and congeniality
in dealing with colleagues and a keen
sense of humor in professional and personal
relationships.
The award was presented at a dinner at
Hiland Park Country Club, which was held
following the annual March Mixer fundraiser
to support the Warren County Bar Foundation,
a charitable organization. The event
raised over $15,000 which will be used to
fund a variety of law related projects in the
community.
At its Law Day 2015 Award Recognition
Breakfast on May 1, the association honored
Sharon King as this year’s recipient of the
prestigious Liberty Bell Award.
King was recognized for her outstanding
contributions to the local community.
“We are honored to have such a deserving
and civic-minded honoree to add to our long
line of worthy award recipients,” the association
said in statement.
The theme of the 2015 Law Day Celebration
was “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom
Under Law.” Guest speaker was Christine
C. Kopec, visiting assistant professor in
Skidmore College’s Department of Management
& Business. She spoke about the
Magna Carta, which is marking its 800th
anniversary.
