The Glens Falls Hospital Foundation’s inaugural
Festival of the Senses event raised $135,687 to help
support and enhance essential health care services
provided by Glens Falls Hospital.
Some 270 guests were in attendance, and 33
businesses and individuals sponsored the event,
held at the Lake George Club in October.
Leading the way was presenting sponsor, Cerner,
an international provider of health information
technologies.
“The support that our regional community
shows for its hospital is truly amazing,” said Vice
President of Development Cynthia Sherwood. “And
every dollar given is invested in technology and
facilities and expertise that continuously elevate
the quality of care the hospital provides.”
Festival of the Senses featured 12 accomplished
chefs serving their favorite culinary creations
at stations set up around the Lake George Club
property. There were also locally crafted beverages
and wines, entertainment, and a special appearance
by Dominick Tesoriero, a runner-up
in the recently concluded
Season 11 of “The Next Food Network
Star” television show.
Festival of the Senses was co-chaired
by David
Britton of Pies on Wheels traveling pizzeria and
the Downtown City Tavern in Glens Falls, and Dr.
John Sconzo, a local anesthesiologist.
Since 1939, the year it was organized, the foundation’s
primary purpose has been to improve the
quality of life for the people of the Greater Glens
Falls area by providing financial support to organizations
that address the community’s human,
social, cultural and educational needs, foundation
officials said.
Grants from the organization do not just go to
the hospital, but to community organizations in
the region.
In addition, the Glens Falls Foundation Gilberto
and Lennetta Pesquera Fund offers scholarship
grants for medical school education on an annual
basis to assist qualified men and women who have
graduated from local area schools and have successfully
completed the first year of medical school.
According to its website, the current amount
for each grant is $4,000 per year. Four grants are
awarded for each academic year. These grants are
restricted to tuition, fees, books and supplies. The
payments are remitted directly to the educational
institution for credit to the student’s account.
The Glens Falls Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable
organization. Contributions to the foundation
are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, the
organization said.
