Samantha’s Café co-owners Jennifer Kraft and Liz Wilcox said the reopening and revitalization of the Glens Falls restaurant has brought many positive changes.
The co-owners said they worked hard to make the needed changes while still keeping everything that was working the same.
“The location and ordering style has changed but, when you walk inside, you immediately feel like you are at Samantha’s with our art-filled walls, high ceilings, old brick, original wood floors and vintage furniture,” said Kraft.
Kraft and Wilcox said the move to 193 Glen St., from 11 Broad St., was based on the need for a more convenient location with better amenities, like parking. Now, they are they are close to downtown where patrons have access to lots for public parking. The move brought an increase in business, allowing Samantha’s to carry 15 part-time employees.
Wilcox said they have expanded the breakfast menu to include more to-go items, including vegan and gluten free options, a breakfast burrito, a breakfast stuffing, which is house made with two eggs and homemade gravy, and “fancy toast,” which is made with house-made bread and toppings. The pair kept many old favorites such as egg sandwiches on house-made breads, praline French toast, crust-less quiche and fresh fruit salads.
“Our lunch menu includes a few new items as well, such as seasonal macaroni and cheese specials,” said Wilcox. “We are now offering locally roasted Spektor Coffee in addition to our long time coffee addiction from Seattle, Caffe Vita,” said Wilcox.
Previously, the Glen Street space was home to Kresge’s 5 & 10 store and various nightclubs. Kraft said they have made the space their own, and it feels as though they have always been there.
“When we got a hold of the space it was really a blank canvas. The building owner, Chad Nims, had already gutted everything. Saratoga Restaurant Supply helped us put our plan on paper and we had so much fun watching the vision come to life as the walls went up. Every single bit of wiring and plumbing is exactly where we wanted it to be,” said Kraft.
The new space has room for parties, such as baby showers, bridal showers, birthday and anniversary parties. The banquet facility has high ceilings, exposed duct work, brick walls, artwork and 1930s furniture.
