The Adirondack Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, has donated 1,639 coats and canned food items to local charitable partners as a result of the generosity of fans and sponsors.
The Thunder ran its second annual November coat drive, which offered the chance to donate a new or lightly worn coat in exchange for a complimentary silver flex ticket. The coat drive resulted in 426 coats collected, 75 more than were collected during the 2015-16 season. All coats have been donated to the Moreau Community Center in South Glens Falls and the Salvation Army in Glens Falls.
The Thunder followed up with a canned food drive on Dec. 3, where they collected over 1,200 non-perishable food items, surpassing the 800 units collected last season. They were donated to the Salvation Army and Open Door Mission in Glens Falls.
Thunder players visited the Open Door Mission on Dec. 8 to serve dinner to those in need.
