Authentic Asian cuisine, served in a popular all-you-can-eat format, is a key to the early success at China Town, a new restaurant in Lake George.
Head chef Jo Sim said don’t be fooled into thinking they are your average buffet. The restaurant, that can seat up to 180 people, is much more than that.
“Our buffet is way beyond that. It is all-you-can-eat from the kitchen and the sushi bar, which is special,” said Sim. It specializes in Thai, Chinese and Japanese food.
The food is cooked to order, not left sitting out on a buffet station.
The restaurant, at 462 Canada St., has been very well received in the community since opening this summer, he said.
Owners Izzy Levy and Daniel Sheer opened China Town L.G., LLC , centrally located in the village on Canada Street, in July. The space, once an Italian restaurant,was completely renovated, a process that took close to two years.
China Town has eight employees.
Sim said the patrons are very receptive to the idea of being able to pay one price for unlimited food. The menu that includes soups, tempura, salads, seafood, chicken, beef and sushi, all for the price of $23.99.
He said patrons love that the food is fresh, with many different options available. While the summer was good to them, “we’re hoping for more locals, and we want them to know the restaurant will be open year round,” said Sim.
Sim said Trip Advisor, an online rating group for restaurants, hotels and trip destinations, recently contacted them after the restaurant received several five-star rankings. He said TripAdvisor acknowledged that new places do not often receive such a strong reception after only being open a few weeks. He and his staff are grateful for the positive feedback and will work to maintain that high standard.
“Thanks for all the support from the locals and the tourists. We will keep it up,” said Sim.
