After three years of growth, Freedom Boat Club owners Matt and Rebecca O’Hara have closed on the purchase of the Dunham’s Bay Boat Co. located at 10 Dunham’s Bay Road (Route 9L) on the east side of Lake George.
Freedom Boat Club Lake George has been located at Beckley’s Marina in Diamond Point since the start of 2016. The couple plans to grow the fleet from seven boats to 12 boats in the coming year and with that growth came the need for more space.
Freedom Boat Club owns, maintains, stores and insures a fleet of new, name brand boats for membership use. With close to 170 locations and growing around North America, the sharing model is surging in popularity, the owners said.
“We are incredibly excited about our expansion into Dunham’s Bay,” said owner Rebecca O’Hara. “While we can’t say enough good things about our time at Beckley’s, we could not pass up the opportunity to secure dock space, which we all know is scarce, in such a great location. It will allow us to expand our fleet, increase the amenities we offer members, and add to the high level of service we pride ourselves on. Boating is all about the experience and our new location will allow us to provide a truly one-of-a-kind membership boating lifestyle on Lake George.”
The owners said this off season will see major updates and improvements to the property and facility ahead of the 2019 boating season.
Phinney Design Group, out of Saratoga Springs, will be the architect of record leading the redesign of the spot. Fuel tank and wastewater treatment upgrades are also slated for completion in 2019.
Current services offered by the marina including boat servicing, seasonal berthing, and winter storage, will continue to be offered.
There is also a plan in place to ramp up the Torqeedo Electric Motor business at the new location, providing an environmentally friendly, maintenance-free motor option for boaters on Lake George.
“We look forward to extending our boating hospitality to public boaters in addition to our club members. With the planned upgrades to the property, we feel that this marina will be a prime spot for boaters to store, service, and fuel their boats,” said Matt. “And we think that as electric propulsion becomes more prevalent in the marine industry, the Torqeedo brand is going to really resonate on Lake George and throughout the pristine lakes of the Adirondacks.”
Freedom Boat Club is the nation’s oldest and largest boat club, with over 2,000 boats at 166 club locations operating in 31 states and Canada.
