The Warren County Historical Society has named Carol Ann Conover its incoming Executive Director as Teri Rogers prepares to retire in October after 10 years in the position. Conover, founder of CA Strategies Consulting, will assume the role after a brief transition.
The change comes ahead of the society’s 30th charter anniversary and 10th year in its historic building in 2027.
Dr. Stan Cianfarano, WCHS President, said Conover has worked with Rogers and the society as a marketing and strategy consultant over the past year, supporting membership outreach and fundraising.
Rogers, a Glens Falls native, historian and author of books on regional history, has overseen development of the society’s museum exhibits, educational programs, research capabilities, history publishing, historic preservation advocacy and student internship program.
“Carol Ann is a proven business and non-profit leader who knows our organization well,” said Rogers. “I am confident about leaving my beloved WCHS in her excellent and very capable hands.”
Conover first worked with the society while volunteering as a writer on the Inspiring Women of Glens Falls book project, an educational publication about local women for middle school students scheduled for release in November. She helped the society manage donations for the project and recommended changes to its broader fundraising practices.
Over the past year, she has consulted with Rogers and the board on fundraising strategy, event planning and community outreach.
Before founding CA Strategies Consulting, Conover spent five years as Director of Events & Community Engagement for a local membership organization. She organized more than 50 annual events, founded a veterans group, expanded a women’s council and managed a leadership curriculum. She also exceeded an annual sponsorship goal by 100% in 2024.
Conover has more than two decades of experience in print journalism and broadcasting. She published her first book, Condition: Human, in 2025 and contributes to the Glens Falls and Saratoga Business Journals. She writes The Impact Brief, an online column about nonprofits and small businesses on Substack.
Her community roles include Vice Chair of the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC), where she is scheduled to become Chair in 2027; Trustee of the Crandall Public Library; and advisory council member for Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL).
The society reports increased interest from school and college students, with more interns and volunteer staff this year than in any previous year. Its recent initiatives include outreach to younger audiences and connections with students on workforce development and access to historical resources.
John Berry, WCHS Treasurer, credited Rogers with building relationships and developing the society. He said Conover’s fundraising experience will support efforts to sustain its programs.
Conover said her priorities include strengthening community connections, expanding educational programming and developing the society’s museum, archive and genealogy resources while maintaining financial sustainability.
