BY MICHAEL BITTLE

In just one short month, our community has changed due to COVID-19. We have completely changed the way we work, interact and live. Many businesses are on hiatus due to executive orders and guidance, others are running as “essential business” only. Everyone is looking for that magic answer on when this will be over, and when can we get back to normal.

I have seen so many people step up and answer the call to this challenge and help each other and our community. The selfless passion that I have seen in this region has shone brightly over the past month. From people donating masks, to our health care systems, to others donating food, time and money. Our front-line workers have expanded beyond healthcare, law enforcement and fire. Those working at restaurants, day care, food stores, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and retail stores are but a few on the front line.

Agents Recommend Business People Meet With Them Regularly To Review Policies

Posted onApril 11, 2019April 11, 2019
John O’Brien is the president of O’Brien Insurance in Glens Falls.

By Christine Graf
Because the insurance industry is constantly changing, insurance agents suggest that business owners stay abreast of these changes by meeting with their agents to review their policies on an annual basis.
John O’Brien, president of O’Brien Insurance in Glens Falls, said this is the only way for agents to ensure that their clients have the coverage they need. O’Brien has been in the insurance business for 40 years. His father, Robert, founded O’Brien Insurance in 1957.
According to Jennifer Longtin, owner and president of Lighthouse Insurance Agency in Ballston Lake, annual reviews don’t always result in additional coverage or increased costs for business owners. She has owned Lighthouse Insurance for 17 years and has worked in the insurance industry for more than 30.

NY State Of Health Program Sees Huge Gain In Enrollment; New Plan Options Cited

Posted onApril 11, 2019April 11, 2019

NY State of Health, the state’s official health plan marketplace, has experienced “overwhelming success” with New York’s Small Business Marketplace (SBM) following implementation of a simplified enrollment process and the addition of thousands of new plan options in April 2018, according to the Department of Health.
Since then, the number of small employers participating in the SBM has grown to 12,219, an increase of 465 percent, officials said. Greater plan choice and easier access to the federal Small Business Health Care Tax Credit have contributed to the rapid growth.
“Small business tax credits are alive

Acupuncture is the insertion of a fine sterile needle into specific points on the body that achieves not just pain relief but an overall natural balance for the body.

It has become a common practice in the U.S., including the local region.

For Warren MacNaughton of Adirondack Community Acupuncture in Queensbury, his journey to acupuncture came about in an effort to find relief from temporomandibular joint syndrome, or TMJ (pain in the jaw joint that can be caused by a variety of medical problems), that was making him miserable.

MacNaughton was very receptive to trying acupuncture to help alleviate his symptoms.

Stephanie O’Hanlon Kayalar, owner of Restore Balance  at 451 Glen St., Glens Falls,  said plans are under way for the opening of a second location.

“Our new location will offer classes and trainings in kambal yoga, as well as offer quaint weekend retreats. It will be Restore Balance retreat and training center. We will be renovating the location to have two yoga studios, and housing for eight to 10 people for yoga retreats. The new building will be used for just kambal yoga,”she said.

Business Report: Living Benefits Of Life Insurance

Do you own a life insurance policy? Do you own the old life insurance or the new life insurance? Don’t know the difference? Let me help.

Traditionally, life insurance, whether it’s term or whole life, benefits only the beneficiaries of the policy, meaning you probably met your maker. No one wants to think about it, but we buy life insurance to protect our families, our businesses or to leave a legacy. However, other risks are far more likely to happen than an untimely death.

What if we live too long? What happens if we develop a sickness or become disabled? What if my needs simply change?

Consumers and advisors need to know about the new life insurance policies that allow you to use the death benefit while you’re alive. If the insured person is diagnosed with cancer, suffers a heart attack, stroke, etc., the critical illness rider on a new life insurance policy allows the insured to accelerate a portion of the death benefit to use for medical expenses or to offset lost income.

Physical therapists agree that people sit too much and with bad posture and that it causes work-related aches and pains so many people suffer.

Some therapists recited the phrase “sitting is the new smoking” as an unhealthy habit.

Kate Pratt of Capital Area Physical Therapy’s office in Queensbury said she sees a lot of “postural type” problems, resulting from people bending over a computer screen and constantly looking down.

“It seems to be more sitting that gets people into trouble,” said Jason Campopiano of Local Motion Physical Therapy in South Glens Falls. People sit flexed forward, he said, and their shoulder, hip and neck muscles get tight. Then “gravity sets in and they lean further forward.”

Shannon Regner of Inova Physical Therapy in Queensbury sees patients with repetition-related problems, particularly in their shoulders and elbows.

“There are always problems with lifting,” resulting in problems in the shoulders and back, she said.

Todd Miller is the owner of The Kinney Agency, Inc. in Hudson Falls. Since 1932, the Kinney Agency has been providing personal and commercial insurance for people and businesses.

By Jennifer Farnsworth

Stability, knowledge, and reputation are all things anyone looking to purchase an insurance policy should look at when seeking an insurance agent.

Todd Miller, owner of The Kinney Agency, Inc. in Hudson Falls, said without these things it’s hard to build a relationship between an insurance company and the consumer.

Miller has been in the business since 1989. Since 1932, The Kinney Agency, Inc. has been providing personal and commercial insurance to people in and around Saratoga and Warren counties.

Miller said the agency first began in 1932 when a dairy farmer started selling insurance out of his house. His father then purchased the agency in 1975, and it was from him that Miller learned the importance of providing a quality services to both homeowners and business owners.
