Two Glens Falls women parlayed their love for canines into a thriving dog obedience training school in South Glens Falls.

In August, Paws4Obedience moved into new, larger quarters to accommodate a growing clientele.

The new facility, at 1638 Route 9—across the street from the former facility—was opened with an all-day celebration that collected four or five crates of food, toys, and other accessories for shelter dogs. It also raised more than $500 for the shelters and for Woofs for Warriors, a Glens Falls organization that helps veterans acquire service dogs and facilitated the adoption of several rescue dogs.

The two women, Lora Bacharach and Brianna Rabine, opened the business in December. They offer a series of obedience training classes and specialized programs such as therapy dog preparation, off-leash obedience training and competitive sports.

More than 250 people came out to join the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) at its 30th Anniversary party in Bolton Landing on Aug. 18.

The LGLC organized the family event to honor all of those who have been a part of its history, and welcome those who wished to be part of its future of protecting Lake George.

“We’ve had an amazing 30 years of protecting the land that protects the lake,” said Executive Director Jamie Brown. “Thanks to the many donors, landowners, volunteers, and community partners, more than 10,800 acres of land has been conserved – that’s nearly one acre every day, that is now permanently protected, working to filter water, reduce erosion, and keep Lake George healthy and clean.”

In 2006, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that many diseases that were a direct result of nutritional deficiencies in populations had increasingly given way to chronic diseases related to dietary imbalances and poor nutritional habits.

At the time, the journal pointed to the need to focus on preventive approaches to healthcare that include assessments of nutritional intake on both the individual and the community levels.

Twelve years later, the need for proper nutritional balance and better dietary choices is more urgent than ever. A 2018 article in U.S. News & World Report stated that 39.6 percent of Americans over age 20 are considered to be obese. The figure is up nearly six percent from 2008.

Imaging System Provides More Comfort, Less Confinement For Glens Falls Hospital Patients

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is said to be one of the most valuable tools available to doctors for the diagnosis of neurological, orthopedic, and cancer conditions.

Glens Falls Hospital officials said they have taken that value to the next level with the addition of a new, enhanced MRI system that offers higher-quality images, faster exam times and greater patient comfort and convenience, particularly for people bothered by feelings of claustrophobia.

The hospital recently invested more than $1.5 million to purchase and install the Siemens MAGNETOM Aera 1.5 T MRI System in its newly renovated MRI Suite located in the Medical Imaging Department on the first floor of the West Wing. The new system replaces an older MRI unit that was housed in the basement of the Pruyn Pavilion. MRI is a non-invasive imaging technology that uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency currents to produce three-dimensional, detailed anatomical images without the use of radiation.

The quest for larger, healthier, cozier homes is driving residential interior design trends and is manifest in the colors, textures and atmosphere of living spaces today, say design professionals.

The footprint of today’s homes has generally gotten larger, by about 400 square feet, according to Danny Williams of Williams & Williams Designers Inc. of Glens Falls.

If anyone can make such an estimate, it is Williams. His family business has been creating custom plans for new homes, expansions and renovations since 1916.

Beyond the environmental benefits, ZE projects provide owners with significant business value through resilience, employee and tenant retention and the ability to enjoy higher rents. Through intelligent design, clean construction and well-planned financing, developers can substantially increase the value of a commercial building with ZE.

The ability to grab and hold on to the best talent is crucial to the long-term success of any business.

One of the most effective ways to keep employees engaged and motivated is by offering them a carefully crafted benefits plan. Along with salary, it’s what employees look at most carefully when deciding whether to join and stay with a firm.

When you give your employees the benefits they value, they’ll likely be more productive, miss fewer workdays and have a higher commitment to helping you build your business. In fact, the LIFE Foundation reports that three in four workers consider benefits a decisive factor in weighing job opportunities.
