The Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & Convention and Visitor Bureau has entered into an agreement with the state Department of Transportation to take over the management of the Information Center located between exits 17 and 18 of the Northway.
According to Consuelo, those plans include fresh paint, removal of a drop ceiling to let in the natural light, ceiling fans, chandelier, Adirondack-style furniture, video displays, a touch screen information kiosk, brochure displays, and new “welcome” signs.
A committee, led by board member Fred Vogel of The Lodges at Cresthaven and The Boathouse Restaurant, has been formed to oversee these improvements.
“We wish to thank both the Warren County Tourism and Occupancy Tax Committees for their financial support” said Janice Fox, president of the Chamber’s board of directors. “Their assistance in providing these much needed funds will allow us to make such improvements.
“It is here that our staff of professional greeters will engage the visitor in conversation and to assist them with their travel needs. It will be our mission to find out more about the travelers wants and needs and to provide them with the necessary information to making their visit or stop through to our region a most enjoyable one” she said.
The Lake George Chamber currently operates the Visitor Center in the Village of Lake George along with its office located just south of the village. They also have contracted to have Lake George and Warren County literature displayed in the Vermont Information Center located in Fair Haven, leading into Rutland, Vt.
“Whether by car or foot traffic we are certain to capture the visitor at one of our many information centers” said Fox.
Both members and non-members of the Chamber will have the opportunity to display literature at the Village Center and the I-87 Welcome Gateway Center. The Chamber will have a sales representative contacting businesses to discuss their advertising needs at these locations.
According to Consuelo, the Welcome Gateway Center will operate seven days a week from May 15 to Oct. 15. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The rest of the year the center will be open Friday and Saturday and holiday periods.
