The Cindy & Skeets Cancer Day Golf Tournament held in July at the Glens Falls Country Club raised more than $114,000 through sponsorships and community support for the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, hospital official said.
The tournament, in its fifth year, has raised more than $458,000 for the cancer center and is named in memory of Cindy Ginsburg and Skeets Woodbury, two active community members. Major sponsorship of the event was provided by Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. and Stuart Ginsburg, Cindy’s husband.
Glens Falls residents Janey Fairchild and Nancy Kindersley, both breast cancer survivors, were on hand to speak with tournament participants.
“The Cancer Center has done so much for my family,” Fairchild said. “From hosting a camp for family members to the constant support, compassion, and care I received, I can’t thank them enough. I plan on never taking another birthday for granted and I welcome getting a year older as a sign of another year I beat cancer.”
Kindersley shared her appreciation by getting involved as a volunteer.
“I spend a lot of time volunteering and giving my time to Glens Falls Hospital,” she said. “It’s my own way of giving back for what they have given me.”
Glens Falls Hospital is a comprehensive integrated system of primary care, specialty care and hospital services, serving a six-county region of the southern Adirondacks. Its C.R. Wood Cancer Center is celebrating 20 years of comprehensive cancer care for the region in 2013.
