Longtime Glens Falls Hospital Senior Executive
Paul Scimeca, a leader in developing the hospital’s
comprehensive community health programs and
physician practices, has been promoted to chief
operating officer.
As COO, Scimeca is responsible for the day-today
operations of the hospital, including patient
services, with specific oversight of the emergency,
oncology, cardiology and behavioral health service
lines. He also oversees the overall patient
experience, which includes clinical support areas,
housekeeping, food services and other departments
that directly impact the quality of care and
service experienced by patients, family members
and visitors.
“Over his 25-plus years at the hospital, Paul has
been a true leader in expanding and enhancing
our healthcare services, while earning the respect
of people at all levels of our organization,” said
President and CEO Dianne Shugrue. “Paul is an
outstanding healthcare administrator, but just
as important, he has a tremendous understanding,
appreciation and passion for what Glens Falls
Hospital is all about. In his new role, he will be
able to make an even greater contribution to the
quality of health care in our region.”
Scimeca began his career at Glens Falls Hospital
in 1989 and earned a series of leadership promotions
in the following years. Most recently he served
as senior vice president, strategy and business development,
where, among other accomplishments,
he participated in collaborative efforts for regional
health planning with other healthcare providers.
Prior to that he served as vice president, physician
practice and community health, where he was
responsible for the strategic development of the
hospital’s multi-specialty physician group, which
now includes more than 100 providers practicing
at 20 locations in five counties.
Earlier in his career, Scimeca led the successful
integration of five community health centers
previously owned by other healthcare providers
into the Glens Falls Hospital system, and also developed
the hospital’s Hospitalist program, which
provides around-the-clock inpatient coverage for
community physicians who no longer make daily
rounds to see their hospitalized patients.
In addition to his role at Glens Falls Hospital,
Scimeca is an adjunct professor at the management
schools at both The Sage Colleges and Union
Graduate College. He is a member of the Medical
Group Management Association and the board of
directors of the YMCA of Glens Falls.
Scimeca holds a master’s degree in health services
administration from Sage Graduate College
and a bachelor’s degree in planning from New
York University.
Glens Falls Hospital has 2,700 employees, 535
physicians and other credentialed providers and
